On my birthday? Really??

Wow. My husband and I have been married for twelve years this coming May, and together for fourteen in upcoming October. During this time, I think he's only been home on my birthday once because the Army keeps sending him somewhere else. This year, we were both thrilled that he'd be home, and that it fell on a weekday so we could spend time together while the kids were at school. Terrific right?

Sadly, no. He found out yesterday that he leaves with his unit on my birthday for a month going to Louisiana for classes. Sigh. Ah, well, what can we do? It's his job. We'd be in real trouble financially & health wise if it wasn't for his job. Most civilian insurance plans have less than terrific prescription plans, and with everyone except our youngest being on regular monthly prescriptions, we'd be in the poorhouse on any other plan - you simply cannot beat FREE! We can even get over the counter medicine free at the pharmacy with their "Self Care Plan". When the kids are running fevers and we need motrin or Tylenol, it's a godsend not to have to pay for it!

My younger son is on Concerta for ADD, and without insurance, that would run us about $120. With most civilian plans, it would probably fetch a copay of $30. He is on two other medications, my older son is on two, and may soon be on ADD meds too, my husband is on four or five medications daily & I'm on... Well too many to count, lol. If we multiplied these by $20 or $30 per Rx on other insurance, we would have little money left to pay the mortgage!

So, I guess what I'm trying to say here is this: I love my husband dearly, and I support his career, wherever they send us or him, and if that means missing my birthday every year, that's really okay with me. I know he loves me and would be here if he could be, but it isn't necessary.

I am proud to be the wife of an American soldier!

I'm on a housework strike today. My neighbor says my name should be Raven Lunatic, lmfao. She is spot on!

If you look before you leap, how can it be a leap of faith?
My 4 year old daughter is getting cranky. This is why she prefers to be at school, lol. I've been organizing years of writing, trying to weed the bad from the good - all the "bad" goes into a "rework & make good" pile for future reference, lol.

Wow. Rough having a sick little one at home, lol.

So, my daughter is home sick today, although she's feeling much better than yesterday. I suspect not much writing will get done, unless I can get her attention on something really involved, lol. Trying to keep up with her, the pets, the housework, the blogs, the Twitter, the actual writing... something's gotta give, I suppose, lol. Can't be daughter or housework, so I guess it'll be writing today, and I will post more stuff tomorrow. Bear with me while I get my blogs up and moving. At some point soon, I will be profound, witty, adorable... or something, really!

A bit of writer's block

I will start cranking this blog into a higher gear very soon! I've experienced a bit of writer's block, and need to get my brain back into the swing of things. I will probably dig out some of my poetry & see if that sparks the creative juices flowing!

Please feel free to check back in. I promise to make this blog a more interesting read!!

Writing takes me away...

Writing takes me away to places I've never been, to see things I've never seen, and meet people I've never met. Whole new worlds open up to me when I write - beautiful worlds, scary worlds, silly worlds, fantastic worlds, the only limits that exist lie within my imagination.

I love my real life and wouldn't trade it for the world, but sometimes it's nice to escape to other realities if just for a few hours!

This little thing called life derailed my writing today, lol.

I had wonderful intentions of writing for at least 3 hours today, but ended up only writing for about 30 minutes, and not all at once. But that's ok, tomorrow will be better. I ended up with an unscheduled doctor appointment, a trip to the pharmacy, a mishap with the dog involving a sprained knee on me, and we insisted our neighbors spend the night at our home tonight because their furnace broke & can't be fixed until tomorrow. We are expecting snow tonight & temps in the low 20's tonight. Therenis no way we would allow them to stay in a house without heat.

They brought fajita fixings for supper & we had a lovely little dinner party. Now we're visiting and the kids are playing upstairs. So, I may not have achieved my writing goal, but I'm perfectly ok with that. Sometimes life just happens, and you simply have to roll with it and adapt. Don't sweat the small stuff...

Brainstorms

Why is it, please, that brainstorms alwaysnhit at the MOST inappropriate times? Like NOW when I should be sleeping? Or while driving (I carry a voice recorder with me now because of that)? Grocery shopping? At the kids' extracurricular events? I mean, really! Can't my brain give me great stuff when I'm actually supposed to be awake? Lol. I imagine this has, in part, to do with the subconscious brain imparting information to the conscious brain the only way it knows how. It would just be nice if I could get these flashes of clarity when I'm not on the elliptical, or cooking dinner, or in line to mail a package at the post office. Am I the only one with these issues, or are there others like me?

Now, that I'm done here, and I've drafted all my notes pertaining to three separate novels, emailed them to myself for formatting changes, synced them with my laptop (I'm on my iPad now, lol) and sent out a bunch of tweets, I'm hoping my brain will slowndown long enough for me to fall asleep!

Plots

I love it when I'm following my outline for a novel, only to find the characters have taken over the plot & are writing their own story, using me as the vessel. To me, that is one of the most exciting realizations when creating!!

Hello from Raven!

I am a relatively new author, trying to get my name out there. I have had poetry recently published at www.XoxoPublishing.com - check it out in their Halloween Anthology. The next batch of poetry should be published in the same publisher's Valentine's Anthology.

I am writing a novel for publication at the moment, as well, and will post more information regarding that in the near future. Feel free to hit me up with questions! I look forward to blogging!
